Switching On.
Press ON. Display will show - - - - if memory is clear, or a LAP Number , then a lap time if there are laps stored. If you wish to clear the memory then press both ON and OFF buttons together for 3 seconds until - - - - appears. The display will show error if RECALL is pressed but there are no laps in the memory.
If you wish to retain the memory, do nothing, it is ready to go.
Timing.
As the vehicle goes past the beacon the Lap Timer will be triggered. It will show 00.00.00 for the first trigger, then for the next trigger LAP 1 and 1 second later, the lap time in minutes, seconds, tenths and hundredths.
There is no need to press any buttons during this time. All lap times are automatic, and are recorded, up to 200 laps. The laps from Lap 1 are then overwritten, so it is always the last 200 laps that are recorded.
Laps Recall.
Press the RECALL button once. The display will show LAPS. Press the RECALL button again. It will briefly show the Lap No. and then the Fastest Lap. Repeated pressing of the RECALL button will then show the other laps from Lap 1 to Lap 200. If you wish to get to a specific lap number quickly, i.e. lap 25, rather than repeatedly pressing, hold down the RECALL button, and it will then rapidly cycle through the laps. Release the RECALL button at the desired lap number, and the time will then be shown.
To then continue timing, press the RESUME Button. All laps will be retained, timing will continue from the last recorded lap, which will be shown.
To DELETE all lap times, press ON and OFF together (CLEAR) for 3 seconds.
To adjust the Blanking time, Sensitivity and Data Logger Pulse.
Pressing the OFF Button (BLANKING) will set the T200 into a fixed routine. It will go through the Blanking, Sensitivity, and Data Logger Connection set up menus. If no buttons are touched after the routine has started, no changes will be made. If you are not connecting your T200 to a data logger to give it a timing pulse, then ignore that section completely, and the routine that the logger goes thru for data connection.
Blanking Time.
Press the OFF button. ( If you are in the timing mode, the unit will switch off. Switch it back on, wait 3 seconds, then press OFF again.) The display will briefly show BLAN, which is short for Blanking Time. The display will then show a number, which factory set is 15. If you wish to change the blanking time, then press either the ON button to increase, or the OFF button to decrease the number. When you have finished, the display will automatically cycle thru to SENS.
Sensitivity.
When you have finished in the blanking mode, the display will automatically cycle thru to SENS. Generally you should leave this set at 6, though reducing the number will reduce the sensitivity. The range is from 1 to 9.
If you are not connecting the T200 to a data logger, then skip to the bottom of this section.
Data Logger Info.
After SENS, and then the displayed number, the display 'trP' for 1s. The output pulse number is then displayed as 'tr 10'.The Data Logger pulse width is set in 100ms increments. The maximum pulse width is 5s (+/-50). The minimum pulse width is 100 ms (+/-01). The pulse can be either a positive or negative trigger. Press ON button to increment the pulse number (Maximum value +50 ).Press OFF button to decrement the pulse number (Minimum value -50).
If no button is pressed for 2s the selected trigger is stored and the unit reverts back to the primed state, ie ready to time.
Factory Default Settings - Master Reset
If you are in doubt about what you have done, then press both buttons down for 6 seconds. This will Master Reset the unit to 15 seconds blanking time, to 6 on the Sensitivity and the Data Logger pulsewidth:- 1 sec. +ve. The display will show - - - - - - (thus clearing the memory) after 3 seconds, and then after a further 3 seconds will show 'reset'. The unit is now back to Factory Settings.
Download
On the floppy disc supplied, or also available at the web site, are specific instructions for the download facility, but as a reminder, pressing RECALL once downloads straight into
*Hyperterminal, with the supplied lead plugged into your PC/Laptop of course!
*Note for Windows Vista users - Hyperterminal is not available in Vista, but
if you click here you can download
a free version from
Hilgraeve
To switch OFF
Hold the OFF button down. If you are in the timing mode, then it will switch off immediately. Otherwise, it will show BLAN. Keep the button held firmly down, and it will then show OFF. It will automatically switch off after 1 hour of non-use.
Data Logger Output
The Data Logger Output is available via the supplied RS232 Interface lead. This lead is used primarily to download the T200RX lap times as a text file to a computer via such programs as Hyper Terminal. (This is found in Win95 & Win98). Data logger output is obtained via two free cables found within the 9 pin 'D' connector. The connector has to be dismantled to gain access to these cables.
Question and Problems.
What is Blanking? Blanking, or masking is a delay time built in to the receiver. The time that you set, say 15 seconds, means that for 15 seconds after the vehicle has gone past the beacon, it will not see any other beacon for 15 seconds. This can be set down to 1 second, but then if there are a lot of Beacons on the pit wall, then the receiver will see them and record the time. Ideally, it should be set 5 seconds less than the fastest possible lap. Then it will ignore all beacons on the pit wall, and around the circuit. Incidentally, the receiver will work off any beacon, not just our own. At most UK race circuits now there are Master Beacons set into the pit wall. This will trigger any of our lap timers, eliminating the need for you to place your own beacon on the pit wall.
I am getting odd times. Check Blanking. Too little means picking up other beacons. Too much blanking, i.e. longer than the lap time means getting one lap time for every 2 laps!! Also check batteries on the beacon. Range (20 meters) of the beacon is dependent on reasonably fresh batteries.
I am getting really odd times. Is the receiver or lead mounted near a Tacho or High Ignition coils? This will upset the Lap Timer.
Brands Hatch Bikers.
Make sure you angle your receiver up on the bike to take into account the fact that you will be leaning heavily when you come past the pit wall. If you do not, you will get inaccurate times.
LO BATT on the display. You will need to change your batteries within an hour or so.
T200 Beacon Operating instructions
Install 4 x AA Batteries, place unit on the beginning of the Pit wall if possible, point across the track and across the path of the vehicle. Bear in mind that if there are other beacons on the pit wall, you do not need to use your own.
Switch on, check light illuminates. Collect the beacon off the pitwall when you have finished…..don't forget it !!!! The Batteries will last for about 4 days of testing.
