Overview

This is our latest generation Lap Timer, and is designed to be used by the driver of a car or kart, or bike rider for the purpose of instantly viewing their lap time on a circuit as they complete the lap, rather than waiting for a pit board signal on the following lap, by which time the driver will have forgotten what he did on that blinding lap!

Each time the driver goes past the pits he will be shown lap number, and then the lap time for that lap. The unit automatically remembers the lap no. and lap time for up to 100 laps. These laps can then be viewed later.

Power

The Display is powered by a 9 volt PP3 Battery which is mounted inside the unit, so there is no need to wire into the vehicles Power supply. The Beacon is powered by 4 x AA Batteries, so no need to lug Big Batteries to the Pit wall.

Positioning

The Display in the vehicle is triggered by a supplied transmitter (Beacon) which is placed on the pit wall, pointing across the track at the vehicle. The Display (the blue and yellow bit) is mounted in view of the driver, and the receiver (the little black box) is mounted in a position so that it can 'see' the beacon (it has a small window at one end). Sometimes it may be necessary to change the direction of the receiver as circuits can have the pit wall on either side of the car.

The mounting of the display and it's receiver need to be away from high voltage scources, like coils, HT leads and Tach output leads, as such high energy scources can send a spike into the lead and give false readings. This is generally not a problem and application of common sense will result in good reliable readings.

The Display is small enough to go onto any steering wheel or steering yoke, or in a fairing. It does not need to be touched when the vehicle is moving, it will give lap times without any need for the driver to do a thing, other than concentrate on driving !

The Beacon will usually be positioned on a pit wall, pointing across the track, in the direction of the receiver on the vehicle as it passes. No critical alignment is required, just common sense. It is worth while positioning the beacon at the beginning of the pit wall. This will eliminate the possibility of false readings. It's also worth remembering that if you have a bike, is it leaning over as it comes past the

pits ? If so, angle the receiver so that it will point at the Beacon as it goes past the beginning of the pit wall.

Lap Memory, Recall and Resume

The Display will remember 100 laps, and will then overwrite the previous laps stored, starting at 001. The memory will remain in place, if the unit switches itself off, or it is switched off, or even if the battery is replaced. It is quite easy to access the memory, and you can either clear the memory, or leave the laps in place, and continue timing again from where you left off. When the unit is switched on, it will either show ------, meaning that there is nothing in the memory, or LAP XXX, followed by a lap time. This is the last timed lap. No further action is needed unless you want to clear the memory. It will time automatically from that point, either way.

Blanking

The Blanking time comes set at 15 seconds, and is adjustable down to 1 second, and up to 240 seconds. What is Blanking time and why do I need it? Well, when the vehicle comes past the pit wall, it see's the FIRST Beacon on the wall. To avoid getting signals from other Beacons that will be lined up on the Pit wall we need to be clever.

What we do is switch the Receiver off for a period of time, from the moment it see's the FIRST Beacon. So, say it takes 10 seconds for your vehicle to go past the pits, then you would need to switch off the receiver for at least 10 seconds. That way, it will only see the first Beacon, and ignore the rest. After 10 seconds the receiver is switched back on, and ready to see the FIRST Beacon on the Pit wall again. We set the Blanking at 15 seconds so that covers most instances.

However, if you want to be clever, then set the Blanking time 5 seconds less than what your best possible lap time could be at that Circuit. Then the receiver will ignore all other Beacons on the circuit…..sometimes people will position a Beacon half way round so as to get split times. This way, they cannot affect you.

Sensitivity

The Sensitivity should not need to be touched. It is there if you feel you need a bit more range, or a bit less, but generally, the Factory setting of 6 will be fine.

Panic!

For those of you that find themselves in a pickle, and don't know what their blanking time is set at, what's the sensitivity, is the memory clear, and are panicking as they are just about to head out for qualifying, fear not ! Pressing both buttons together for 6 seconds will completely reset the unit back to Factory settings and clear the memory, and you will be ready to go !

Low Battery

When the battery starts to drop in voltage, then the display will start alternating the lap times with a batt low warning. The unit will still work, but change the battery shortly.

30 day money back Guarantee

I hope, like me, that you will find this unit to be reliable and trouble free, and will improve your on track performance. If you have a problem that you can't resolve, please feel free to ring us. If for any reason you are not happy with it, we will refund you the full amount, less carriage, as long as it returns to us in as new condition, within 30 days of purchase.

Warranty

The Rollcentre T100 Lap timer is guaranteed for 1 year from purchase date. If it fails, and you obviously haven't trashed it yourself , we will either repair replace it, at our discretion. You pay for the carriage.

Finally

Now please read the INSTRUCTIONS, and play with the unit to become conversant with it. Remember, if the Blanking time is set at 15 seconds, then it will not see a Beacon for 15 seconds ! If you set the Blanking time down to 3 seconds then you can play with the unit in the garden/kitchen without waiting for 15 seconds for a trigger, and be on the ball before you hit the track ! Don't forget to reset it !
